If you mean during which year of academic study, no time is the wrong time to get some hands-on experience. If you are pursuing your undergraduate or masters degree, you may start as early as possible. The more internship projects you complete before you graduate, the more experience and understanding you will gain about industry requirements. Ideally, you should begin applying around the second semester of your course.

Note: If you are pursuing an undergraduate or postgraduate course at a UGC or AICTE approved institute, you may refer to the latest internship policy here.

The internship duration varies from company to company and project to project. Most employers prefer candidates who are available during the intern recruitment season and can commit at least 30-60 days or more towards their internship project. On Switch Idea, the student can decide and control their Availability Periods for an upcoming internship.

Refer to the below listicle containing project-wise internship durations:

Yes. Every internship listed on Switch Idea offers an assured compensation of a minimum of 5000 INR per month. Depending on the project, the company, and the location of the internship, this stipend range can vary between 5000-25000 INR per month. Switch Idea does not allow companies to post unpaid internships. This step is taken to encourage interns to perform their best during their internship tenure.

After you log in to your account, you can add the details to your profile from the Profile page. Please upload your most recent picture and fill up the necessary information in the fields available on the profile page. Your Name and Mobile number (10-digit) will be auto-filled. You must add your preferred location so that we can serve you the most relevant opportunities.

After this, you will need to fill up the Additional Information section. Frankly, this is the most significant part that results in listing your profile in the search results when employers search for candidates. Select your Primary and Secondary Interests from the available domains. Next, add your skills. In the skills field, you will get auto-suggestions as you type so that you can add the skills without much effort. Please make sure you add multiple skills. You'd also need to upload your resume. Upload your most recent resume file by clicking on the Upload Resume button. After you add all the information, click on the Submit button, and you are good to go.

After you have logged into Switch Idea, click on your name on the top right-hand corner of the website. In the dropdown, you can access Profile, Applications, and Account Settings.

  1. You can make changes to your Profile information by clicking on Profile.
  2. You can view your Internship applications by clicking on Applications.
  3. You can go to your Account Settings to change your password and your email notification preferences.

Once you are logged in, click on Find Internships. Here you can narrow your search for the internships that match your preferences. In the keyword search box, type the kind of role or position that you are looking for during the internship tenure. If your keyword matches with the internships on our platform, you will instantly find them below the search bar. Additionally, you can also filter the internship projects Domain-wise and Location-wise. Furthermore, you can get even more accurate results by selecting the Degree filter.

Before filing your application, you will see the company information, and position offered to the intern, project domain, work location, stipend, and the skills required for the internship. The intern responsibilities, perks, and the last date to send the application to the company is clearly mentioned wherever applicable.

Once you decide to apply for an internship, click on the Apply button. On doing this, you will be prompted to write a cover letter. Make sure your cover letter is crisp and to the point. Be frank and explain why you are the best candidate for the position. After you write the cover letter, hit the confirm button to send your application to the HR.

Note: Writing a good cover letter is extremely important because it allows you to differentiate yourself from the other candidates that will apply for the same internship. To take advantage of this, you can either use the suggested Cover Letters or draft your own.

The employer receives a notification about your application after you apply to the internship. Your student profile is tagged along with the application when sent to the company HR. You'll be immediately informed when an employer checks your profile or downloads your resume. You also get to know the intern positions they are presently looking to fill in.

Note: If your application is shortlisted or if you get selected for the internship, you'll receive an SMS notification on your registered phone and an email containing further details.

Companies prefer candidates who can commit a minimum of 30-60 days towards their internship project. The candidate should be currently pursuing either a diploma, undergraduate, or a postgraduate degree course, and should be able to produce an Internship NOC at the time of joining the company.

Yes. During the first two weeks, the company imparts training to the interns. This on-site knowledge-transfer or virtual training is usually given by the supervisor or the assigned project manager. Depending upon the organizational policies, the training sessions are also called as Induction, Orientation, or Onboarding Programs.

Typically the intern-selection process involves three steps.

Step 1: Initial Screening (From the Date of Application)

After you apply for an internship, employers carefully review the application to determine how well your profile fits with the position. The critical evaluation parameters include:

  • Application Form sent along with the NTAT / PBIT Scores
  • Internship Availability Period of the candidate
  • Resume

The shortlisted candidates are contacted to schedule a telephonic interaction with the employer.

Step 2: Intermediate Screening (During the Second Week from Date of Application)

Some employers may choose to verify scores or call the college faculties of the applicant to get references and perform a background check on the student.

Step 3: Final Screening - Telephone Interaction or an On-Site Interaction (During the third or fourth week from Date of Application)

  • Telephonic Interaction: A teleconference for selected candidates is scheduled at the mutually agreed date and time. These calls usually last approximately for 40-50 minutes. Most companies keep this process standardized for all the candidates. While candidates will have the opportunity to ask questions at the end of the interview, they are also invited to follow up with the company after the call.
  • On-site Interaction: Students who are not able to attend a telephonic interaction can get an on-site, face-to-face interaction scheduled with the employer.

Candidates who perform well during the on-site or telephonic interaction receive the Selection Letter from the company on the registered email.

A company extends a Pre Placement Offer (PPO) to those interns who perform exceptionally well during the internship tenure.

Note: Switch Idea is an internship platform that helps students find domain-specific internships. The decision to extend a PPO depends solely on the company offering the internship, and Switch Idea does not interfere with the recruitment policy of the hiring company.

Program Outcomes, commonly called as POs, are graded reports about the knowledge, skills, and the attributes of the intern. Students get Program Outcomes Report after completing the internship. The POs report is an essential document for getting academic credits, which are always beneficial if you plan to go for further studies.

To learn more about the Premium Internship Posting, Contact Us.

Switch Idea does not allow employers to post unpaid internships because they can exploit enthusiastic college students for free labor. We have found that employers who pay decent stipend during the internship attract the best talent. Not only because money is a big motivator, but also because it helps attract a larger group of highly qualified candidates who feel valued for their time and efforts.

Besides, the pay is an integral part of treating interns as professionals making them more likely to play the role and more likely to join your company full-time at the end of the internship. For more information regarding the Stipend Payscale, contact us.

Yes. Switch Idea allows employers to post multiple internship listings. You should create an individual listing for every profile. If the same profile is available for multiple locations, you can mention it in the same listing itself by selecting multiple locations. However, for a different profile, you must create a new internship listing.

Once your internship opening is approved, the listing gets published on Switch Idea. You can then Login to your account and click on My Postings. Here you can view all your internships and the applications you received for them. On the same page, you can also Shortlist or Reject the applications.

Yes. In case you're short of time and want to hire interns ASAP, please fill our Intern Recruitment Deck. Upon submitting the information, someone from Switch Idea will get back to you within 24 hours.

  3. Select your internship and click edit.

Note: You can only do this if your internship posting is still pending for approval. If your internship has already been approved and published on the site, you will not be able to edit it. In this case, you should either close the internship listing or contact the support team.

Once you have found the right candidates, you can close the internship posting so that more applicants need not apply. Follow the below steps to close an internship listing:

1. Login to your account.
2. Go to My Postings.
3. Navigate to the internship you wish to close and click on the Action button.

You have created your account on Switch Idea and posted an internship opening. After checking your dashboard, you see that your internship posting is still under review.
