Job Description

Milaap’s Fellowship Program is a unique opportunity to discover first-hand the reality of microfinance on the field and have a real and positive impact on rural communities.

Milaap is providing young professionals with a full-time fellowship (with a stipend) to serve as eyes and ears of the community on the ground, working directly with our partners and our borrowers. Our program has been designed as a deep immersion in rural communities, enabling our fellows to witness their daily life as well as the opportunities and challenges of microlending in India.

Our fellows will be placed at one of our partner organisations across India - Belgium (Karnataka), Aizawl (Mizoram), Imphal (Manipur), Kolkata (West Bengal), Trichy (Tamil Nadu), Ahmedabad (Gujarat), Bolangir (Orissa), Sitapur (Uttar Pradesh)

Requirements :
[1] Minimum 4-6 -month commitment
[2] Minimum 21 years of age.
[3] Candidate must preferably a graduate or post graduate, undergraduate students or Fresh Graduates may also apply.
[4] Proficiency with MS Office Suite and web tools (G mail, Skype, WordPress, etc.).
[5] Should be an Indian Native or Indian origin, knowing any one of the following languages; Hindi, Odiya, Gujrati, Bengali, Kannada, Tamil, Mizo.
[6] Impeccable written and oral communication skills in English.
[7] Cultural adaptability (some overseas experiences, especially in developing countries, can be a plus) and high degree of flexibility in new environments.
[8] High degree of self-motivation and commitment.

Enthusiasm for microfinance and have a passion and noticeable excitement for what we are doing at Milaap.
Sense of responsibility and ability to work independently.


The candidate will be responsible to:

[1] Meet borrowers funded by Milaap on a weekly basis (At least 8-10 each week) and write short Loan updates to show the impact of the loan on the Borrower.
[2] Update to be accompanied by a photograph or a video. This updates will be e-mailed to lenders who have made a loan to that particular borrower.
[3] Train the Field Partner staff to use any kind of new tools implemented by Milaap.
[4] Train the field partner to write efficient client profiles which are interesting and diversified.
[5] Interview borrowers to assess loan impact, verify data, and gather information for journal updates through a randomly picked sample of borrowers, in order to insure the credibility of the answers.
